Getting Started with the Emporia App

Navigate, monitor, and manage your energy devices with ease.

The Emporia app is the platform for automating your home energy. Set it up once, let it run, and watch the savings show up in your monthly bill.

With the Emporia app, you can monitor your home's energy use in real time, schedule devices to run when energy is cheapest, route surplus solar to your enrolled devices, and see your savings at a glance.


What You Can Automate

  • EV Charging — Charge during off-peak hours automatically, or wait for available solar before pulling from the grid

  • Excess Solar — Route surplus solar to your enrolled devices instead of exporting it back to the grid

  • Smart Plugs — Schedule appliances to run when energy is cheapest, or sync them to solar production

  • Thermostats — Pre-cool or pre-heat your home during off-peak hours so you stay comfortable without paying peak rates

  • Home Battery — Store cheap energy and discharge during expensive peak periods

  • Peak Demand Management — Stay under your utility's demand thresholds automatically to avoid demand charges

Customers typically save 10–20% through automated demand management alone. With a home battery, that rises to 30–50%.


Navigating the App

The app is organized around five screens accessible from the bottom navigation bar.

Home — Your dashboard. See your energy summary, top circuits, savings widget, and quick controls for your devices. Customize which widgets appear by tapping the filter icon at the top of the screen.

Devices — Your device inventory. Tap any device to see detailed energy data, real-time power consumption, and direct controls.

Usage — Energy data over time. Filter by Live, Past, or any custom date range. Drill from yearly down to per-minute. Switch between kW, kWh, cost, or carbon footprint.

Discover — Where automation lives. Set up Smart Saver, Excess Solar, PowerSmart, Peak Demand Management, and utility programs that pay you to participate.

Menu — Settings, account, device management, notifications, support, and access to the full Help Center.


Get Started

  1. Download the Emporia app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android), or use the web app in your browser

  2. Add your devices through Menu → Add a Device

  3. Set your location, time zone, and utility rate under Menu → Location & Utility Info so Emporia can recommend the right automations

  4. Open the Discover screen and follow the recommendations Emporia surfaces for your setup
