This guide explains how to adjust the charging rate of your Emporia Energy Level 2 EV Charger using the Emporia Energy app. The charging rate can be managed through two primary settings: Maximum Charge Rate and Real-Time Charge Rate.
Maximum Charge Rate
The Maximum Charge Rate sets a permanent ceiling for the allowable charging rate, ensuring it aligns with your power supply’s breaker rating. For installations using the NEMA 14-50 plug, this setting should not exceed 40A, as the plug is rated for a maximum of 40A.
To adjust the Maximum Charge Rate:
Open the EV Charger Settings page within the Emporia Energy app.
Use the selection menu to choose the appropriate amperage that matches your requirements and use-case.
Select Save one your setting has been chosen.

Real-Time Charge Rate
The Real-Time Charge Rate allows you to adjust the charging rate dynamically via a slider on the Control page in the app. This rate can be adjusted in single amp increments from 6A (the charger's minimum) up to the Maximum Charge Rate setting.
To adjust the Real-Time Charge Rate:
Navigate to the EV Charger Control page within the app.
Tap the "pencil" icon to enable the slider.
Tap and hold the slider to adjust the charging rate as desired.

PIN Requirement for adjusting Charge Rates
If your charger is installed using the NEMA 14-50P plug, the maximum charge rate is capped at 40A. For charge rates up to 48A, the charger must be hardwired and connected to WiFi. The Emporia Energy app will request a PIN to change the dedicated breaker size, ensuring safety in accordance with NEC requirements. The PIN is set by the electrician who installed the charger upon initial setup of the device. If you need to reset the PIN, contact the installing electrician or Emporia Customer Support.
Safety Note
Adjusting the charge rate can be a safety concern. Always ensure that the rate you set is within the capacity of your electrical supply. Setting a higher rate than your electrical system can handle may cause serious safety hazards. Therefore, it is recommended that a qualified professional manages the charge rate adjustments within the app, utilizing the required PIN for verification.
