How does the Vue Utility Connect work?

The Vue Utility Connect is the easiest monitor to setup and install - get instant and real-time updates from your smart meter.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

The Vue Utility Connect is a compact device designed for easy installation. Simply plug it into a standard 120V outlet, and it will establish a communication link with your utility-provided smart meter. This connection allows the device to stream real-time data on your total system usage to the Emporia cloud, which you can then access from anywhere in the world using the Emporia Energy app.

Key Features

  • No Sensors or Electrical Panel Interaction Required: The Vue Utility Connect eliminates the need for installing sensors or interacting with your electrical panel. It gathers all necessary measurements directly from your smart meter, ensuring accurate, real-time data.

  • Zigbee Smart Energy Profile: The device uses the Zigbee Smart Energy Profile, also known as a Home Area Network (HAN) enabled system, to communicate with your smart meter. This protocol is part of the utility providers' Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) initiative.

Easy Setup

To set up your Vue Utility Connect, follow these simple steps:

  1. Check Compatibility: Ensure your utility provider supports HAN-enabled smart meters and has the necessary backend infrastructure (list below).

  2. Register Your Device: Provide your utility provider with the MAC Address and any other required information. Once registered, your smart meter will start broadcasting data to the Vue Utility Connect.
