Setting Up Your Vue Utility Connect

Plug in your Vue Utility Connect, pair it with the Emporia app, and register with your utility — with step-by-step instructions for all 9 supported utility providers.

Setting up your Vue Utility Connect involves three steps: plug it into a wall outlet, pair it with the Emporia Energy app, and register the device with your utility provider so the smart meter starts broadcasting your usage data. This article walks through all three, including the registration process for each supported utility.

Before You Begin

Make sure you have:

  • A Vue Utility Connect device.

  • A 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network in your home (the Utility Connect doesn't connect over 5 GHz).

  • An account with one of our supported utility providers. To check, see Vue Utility Connect: Markets and Supported Utilities.

  • Your utility account number and your smart meter's serial number on hand — you'll need these during registration.

  • Your Vue Utility Connect's MAC ID and Install Code — these are printed on the back of the device and on the inside lid of the packaging.

Step 1: Plug In and Pair to the App

  1. Plug the Utility Connect into a standard 120V wall outlet, ideally on or near an exterior wall close to your smart meter.

  2. Download the Emporia Energy app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

  3. Create an account or log in if you already have one.

  4. Tap Add a Device and follow the in-app prompts to pair your Utility Connect with your home Wi-Fi network.

Once paired, the Utility Connect's Wi-Fi LED should be solid (connected to your router and the Emporia cloud). The Smart Meter Link LED will likely still be off until you complete utility registration in Step 2.

Step 2: Register with Your Utility

Each utility has its own process for authorizing a HAN device on your smart meter. Find your utility below and follow the corresponding steps.
