Choosing Your Emporia EV Charger: Classic vs Pro

Everything you need to know when deciding between the Pro and Classic Level 2 EV Chargers

Updated yesterday

Emporia offers two Level 2 EV chargers designed to meet different needs. Both deliver reliable, fast charging for your electric vehicle, but the Pro takes it further with integrated energy management capabilities. This guide will help you choose the right charger for your home.

Choose the Classic EV Charger if:

  • You want a quality Level 2 charger at a lower initial investment

  • You prefer to purchase components separately based on your needs

  • Time-of-use scheduling meets your needs (included at no extra cost)

  • You want solar optimization and are willing to purchase a Vue monitor separately

  • You have adequate electrical panel capacity and don't need load management right away

  • You want the option to add dynamic load balancing later via a paid upgrade if needed

Choose the Pro EV Charger if:

  • You want a complete energy management solution from day one

  • You prefer a cleaner installation with the pre-configured rear knockout

  • Your home's electrical capacity benefits from built-in dynamic load management to prevent system overloads

  • You have solar panels and want to optimize self-consumption

  • You want to take advantage of time-of-use electricity rates automatically

  • You need faster charging speeds (up to 48A)

  • You prefer an all-in-one solution without needing separate upgrades

Note: The Pro EV Charger is sold only as a complete bundle with the Vue 3 monitor and energy management features. The Classic charger includes time-of-use scheduling at no extra cost, can work with solar optimization when paired with a separately purchased Vue monitor, and offers dynamic load balancing as a paid upgrade.

  • Overcurrent Protection – Safeguards your home and vehicle from electrical faults

  • Complies with Local Electrical Codes – Ensures hassle-free installation and inspection approvals

EV Compatibility

Emporia chargers are tested for compatibility with a wide range of EVs. Charging regulation is primarily managed by the vehicle itself, ensuring safe and efficient charging. While Emporia products have shown no conflicts with various EV models, customers should verify whether their vehicle manufacturer imposes warranty restrictions for third-party chargers.

Both the Classic and Pro EV Chargers deliver the reliable, efficient charging that Emporia is known for. Your decision comes down to whether you want to start with basic charging and add features later, or invest in a complete energy management solution from day one.
