Classic vs Pro EV Charger

Everything you need to know when deciding between the Pro and Classic Level 2 EV Chargers

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Pro EV Charger

The Pro EV Charger represents our premium all-in-one solution, combining advanced charging capabilities with built-in energy management features. This integrated system comes with everything you need for smart, efficient EV charging.

This includes options for NEMA 14-50 plug configurations, which enable a plug-and-play setup, as well as hardwired installations for higher amperage support (up to 48A) for faster charging.

Understanding proper electrical requirements is essential. The National Electrical Code (NEC) requires breakers to be sized at 125% of the current used: a 50A breaker supports charging at 40A, while a 48A charging rate requires a 60A breaker. All Emporia chargers comply with these regulations.

Features:

  • Modern, refined design

  • Thinner, more flexible charging cable and NEMA cord

  • Extended 25-foot charging cable for greater reach

  • Pre-configured knockout on the back for cleaner hardwire installation

  • Available with J1772 and NACS connectors

  • Choice of hardwire or NEMA plug configurations

  • Wi-Fi and app integration for advanced control and monitoring

  • NEMA 4 enclosure for enhanced outdoor protection

  • Option to convert the NEMA 14-50 plug configuration to a hardwired setup

Included Energy Management System:

The Pro EV Charger comes bundled with:

  • Emporia Pro EV charger: Level 2 EVSE charger

  • Vue 3 Energy Monitor: Tracks your home's power usage in real time

  • PowerSmart Technology: Pre-installed software that enables all energy management features without requiring additional upgrades

These integrated features provide:

  • Dynamic Load Balancing: Prevents circuit overloads by automatically adjusting charging power

  • Time-of-Use Scheduling: Intelligent charging during lower-cost electricity periods

Classic EV Charger

The Classic EV Charger provides reliable Level 2 charging for your electric vehicle, offering flexible configuration options. This model is ideal for those seeking a straightforward charging solution.

Features:

  • Level 2 charging for faster charging than standard outlets

  • You plan to use the charger in a shared outlet setup with careful load management

Note: The Pro EV Charger is sold only as a complete bundle with the Vue 3 monitor and energy management features.

Emporia chargers are tested for compatibility with a wide range of EVs. Charging regulation is primarily managed by the vehicle itself, ensuring safe and efficient charging. While Emporia products have shown no conflicts with various EV models, customers should verify whether their vehicle manufacturer imposes warranty restrictions for third-party chargers.
