When setting up your Vue: Gen 3 Home Energy Monitor, it's crucial to follow the provided installation guidelines closely. A common query we encounter is whether the device can be powered through a standard electrical outlet or plug, rather than the designated installation process. Why Not Use an Outlet/Plug?

The Vue: Gen 3 is designed with a specific "wire harness" component (4x wires colored Black, Red, Blue and White). This wire harness is not just a means to supply power to the monitor; it's an integral part of the system that allows the Vue: Gen 3 to accurately detect and measure the voltage across each phase of your electrical system. Using an ordinary outlet or plug to power the device would bypass this crucial functionality. Consequently, the device would not be able to measure system voltages accurately across different phases, leading to incomplete data and potential issues with your energy monitoring setup. It is for these reasons that powering the Vue: Gen 3 via an outlet or plug is not recommended and may result in suboptimal performance/accuracy of the device.
