Adjusting Charge Rate On-Demand via the Emporia Energy App
You can manually adjust the charge rate at any time in the app. There are two key settings:
Maximum Charge Rate – A permanent ceiling to ensure safe operation based on your electrical system
Real-Time Charge Rate – A dynamic setting that allows on-the-fly adjustments in single-amp increments (6A–40A for NEMA 14-50, up to 48A if hardwired)
To adjust the Maximum Charge Rate:
Tap the electric pump icon next to your charger’s name
Open Settings (⚙) in the top right
Select Breaker
Choose the appropriate Max Charge Rate
To adjust the Real-Time Charge Rate:
Tap the electric pump icon next to your charger’s name
Tap the pencil icon next to Charge Rate
Use the slider to modify the rate as needed
Automated Energy Management
The Emporia platform offers smart features to automatically adjust charge rates for efficiency and cost savings:
Excess Solar Optimization – Adjusts the charge rate to maximize solar energy usage
Peak Demand Management – Modulates charging to reduce peak demand charges
Load Management – Balances electrical load to prevent system overloads
Limitations to Consider
Vehicle Limitations – Some EVs have a maximum charge rate that cannot be exceeded
System Limitations – Your home’s electrical setup may impose restrictions
Installation Limitations –
40A max for NEMA 14-50 plug installations
Up to 48A if the charger is hardwired
PIN Requirement (NEC Compliance)
The National Electrical Code (NEC) requires a PIN to change the breaker size for safety. This PIN is set by the installer. Contact them or Emporia Support for resets
Safety Note
Always ensure your charge rate matches your electrical system’s capacity. Incorrect settings may cause safety hazards—consult a professional for adjustments requiring a PIN
