Setup schedules to automatically manage your appliance usage based on timing.

Time-of-Use (ToU) Management (aka "scheduling") allows you to control the on/off behavior and energy consumption of your connected devices based on specific times of day. You can manage these through custom schedules or linked rate plans. The supported devices include the Emporia Energy Monitoring Smart Plug and all models of EV Chargers.

Note: Since Time-of-Use management is based on time (rather than usage), an energy monitor is not required for this functionality to work.

Accessing Time-of-Use Management:

  1. Open the Emporia Energy app.

  2. Tap the Management button at the bottom of the screen.

  3. Navigate to Time-Of-Use Management.

  4. Select the device you want to apply ToU Management to.

Enabling Rate Plan Time-Of-Use Management:

Linking your device to a rate plan ensures it only operates during the lowest cost periods (off-peak hours).

  1. Connect your device to a rate plan following the instructions here.

  2. Choose the option to "Switch ON" or "Charge" during Off-Peak Hours.

  3. If no rate plan is specified, default hours are 8:00 AM-8:00 PM (weekdays) and 12:00 AM-12:00 AM (weekends).

Custom Schedule Management:

Create custom schedules for precise control over your devices.

  1. From the ToU page, select Control using Custom Schedules.

  2. Tap + Add Schedule to create a new event.

  3. Set the time, repeat cycle (default is daily), and action (Charge State for EV Chargers or Switch for Smart Plugs).

Example: Schedule your EV Charger to start charging at 9:00 PM and stop at 6:00 AM every day.

NOTE: Ensure each schedule has both "on" and "off" events if looking for a repeated or cycling type of behavior.
