Not connecting to WIFI

Quick tips to resolve WiFi connectivity issues with your EV Charger.

Updated this week

Basic Troubleshooting

  1. Power Cycle Everything

    • Unplug your EV charger for 30 seconds, then reconnect

    • Restart your router (unplug for 30 seconds)

    • Force-close and reopen the Emporia app

  2. Signal Strength

    • Position device closer to router if possible

    • Consider a WiFi extender for weak signal areas

  3. Mobile Hotspot Alternative

    • Set Up a Hotspot: Use your smartphone to create a WiFi hotspot (iOS, Android)

    • Connect Your Device: In the Emporia app, use the hotspot's WiFi details for setup. This can also help your device receive firmware updates (which can help connectivity to the local network).Router Configuration

  • Required Settings:

    • Security: WPA, WPA2, or WEP

    • WiFi Protocol: B, G, or N modes

    • Automatic channel selection

    • 2.4GHz network required (devices cannot connect to 5GHz)

    • No dual-layer security (avoid networks requiring login beyond WiFi password)

Network Requirements

  • Ports: 80, 443 (outbound), 8883 (inbound/outbound)

  • Target Domains: mqtts://prod-mqtt.emporiaenergy.com/

Advanced Solutions

  • Avoid special characters in SSID and password

  • Keep SSID under 32 characters, password under 63

  • Use less crowded WiFi channels (1, 6, or 11)

  • Enable legacy modes (b/g/n mixed mode)

  • Consider static IP reservation

  • Disable AP/Client Isolation
