Emporia Energy integrates with both Google Home and Amazon Alexa so you can control compatible devices like Smart Plugs and EV Chargers hands-free using simple voice commands; this guide walks you through setup and outlines the features currently available with these voice assistants.
What You Can Control
Currently, only basic on/off commands are supported:
"Turn on my Smart Plug" β Activates your connected device
"Turn off my EV Charger" β Stops an active charging session
Note: Advanced commands (such as adjusting charge rates or checking energy usage) are not available through voice assistants at this time. For detailed energy monitoring and control, use the Emporia mobile app.
Setting Up Google Home
Open the Google Home app
Tap the "+" icon in the upper-left corner
Select Link app or service
Choose Works with Google (not New Device)
Tap the magnifying glass and search for "Emporia Energy."
Select Emporia Energy and sign in with your account credentials
Once authenticated, your Emporia devices will appear in Google Home and are ready for voice control.
Setting Up Amazon Alexa
Open the Alexa app
Tap More, then Skills & Games
Search for "Emporia Energy"
Select the Emporia Energy Skill and tap Enable to Use
Sign in with your Emporia Energy account credentials
Tap Discover Devices to locate your Emporia devices
Go to Devices in the bottom menu and select Plugs or EV Chargers
Your devices are now ready for voice control through Alexa.
