The Emporia Energy app provides comprehensive device management tools to help you customize, maintain, and organize all your connected devices. From naming conventions to firmware updates, WiFi configuration to account sharing, these settings ensure your devices work exactly the way you need them to.
Access these settings by tapping the menu icon (☰) in the app and selecting Manage Devices.
Device Info
Each Emporia device has a dedicated Info page where you can view essential details and configure key settings.
Accessing Device Info:
Tap the menu icon (☰) in the app
Select Manage Devices
Choose the device you want to configure
Device Naming and Identification
Customizing Device Names:
If no custom name is set, the app displays the last six digits of the device serial number
Tap the Name field, enter your preferred name, and tap Save
Use descriptive names like "Garage Charger," "Main Panel Monitor," or "Living Room Plug" for easy identification
Serial Number
The serial number uniquely identifies your device and is displayed on the Info page. The last six digits are used for Bluetooth connections during setup. Keep this information handy when contacting Customer Support for assistance.
Firmware Version
View your device's current firmware version on the Info page.
Automatic Updates:
Emporia devices automatically check for and install firmware updates daily
Updates happen in the background when connected to the cloud
No manual intervention required
If your device firmware isn't updating despite cloud connectivity, contact our Customer Support team for assistance.
Device Nesting
Device nesting creates parent-child relationships between devices, helping you organize complex energy systems.
Why Use Device Nesting?
Organize multi-meter installations (main panel and subpanels)
Track energy flow between upstream and downstream devices
Simplify management of properties with multiple monitoring points
Create logical hierarchies for solar + storage + consumption systems
Setting Up Device Nesting:
Open the Device Info page for the child device
Locate the Nest Under dropdown
Select the parent device (the upstream device in your energy system)
Tap Save at the bottom of the page
Example Use Cases:
Nest a subpanel Vue monitor under your main panel Vue monitor
Nest an EV Charger under the Vue monitor, tracking its circuit
Organize multiple properties or buildings hierarchically
Shared Device Access
Share device access with family members, roommates, or property managers while maintaining separate accounts.
How It Works:
All users with shared access currently have equal permissions—everyone can view data, control devices, and modify settings. Emporia plans to introduce role-based permissions in future updates.
Sharing a Device:
Navigate to Menu (☰) > Manage Devices
Select Share Devices
Enter the email address of the person you want to invite
Select the device(s) you'd like to share
Tap Share at the bottom
Important Considerations:
You can modify or revoke access anytime through the Manage Devices menu
If you remove a device before the invited user accepts, it will disconnect from the WiFi and require complete setup again
Device sharing is account-based and configured separately on each mobile device
WiFi Configuration
Stable WiFi connectivity is essential for your Emporia devices to transmit data to the cloud.
When to Reset WiFi:
Device shows as offline in the app
Changed WiFi network name or password
Moving device to a different location
Troubleshooting connectivity issues
Resetting WiFi Credentials:
Open the Emporia Energy app
Navigate to Menu (☰) > Manage Devices
Select the device you need to reconnect
Scroll to the bottom and tap Reset WiFi or Reset Network
Important Note: This only clears WiFi credentials—your historical data and settings remain safe.
Reconnecting to WiFi:
Select your preferred WiFi network from the list
Tap Continue
Enter your WiFi password
Tap Continue and wait for the connection (typically 30-60 seconds)
Tap Done when successful
Troubleshooting Tips:
Ensure the device is within the WiFi signal range
Use a 2.4 GHz network (most devices don't support 5 GHz)
Verify password is correct (case-sensitive)
Check that your router is functioning properly
