Emporia Energy stores your measurement data in the cloud at multiple retention periods to balance detailed visibility with long‑term trends. This article explains Emporia’s data retention policies and how to permanently delete measurement data if needed.
How long data is stored
Emporia stores measurement data at different resolutions for varying lengths of time so you can access both recent, high‑detail data and long‑term aggregated history.
Data retention periods
1-second interval data: Retained for 3 hours.
1-minute interval data: Retained for 7 days.
15-minute interval data: Retained for 1 year (available only via CSV export).
1-hour, daily, and aggregated data: Stored for the lifetime of the device.
Local data storage
Emporia devices are primarily cloud‑based, so on‑device storage is limited and used mainly for bridging short offline periods.
For details about how devices behave and buffer data when offline, see the Offline Behavior article for your specific device type.
There is no way to recover past minute‑level data from local storage after it has been uploaded and overwritten in the cloud.
Exporting data for long‑term retention
You can export your data on-demand in CSV format from within the Emporia Energy app to maintain your own long-term archive.
Export regularly: Export 1-minute interval data weekly to safeguard high-resolution data before it ages beyond the 7-day retention window.
Consolidate exports: Combine weekly CSV files into a single dataset if you need extended trend analysis or external reporting.
Plan ahead: Data older than 7 days is stored only in aggregated formats like 15-minute intervals and above.
Clearing and deleting measurement data
If needed, you can permanently delete measurement data for specific devices and circuits from within the Emporia app.
Important considerations
Permanent deletion: Data deleted through this process is permanently removed from the Emporia Energy database and cannot be recovered.
No partial date-range deletion: It is not possible to delete data for only a specific date range; all measurement data for the selected circuits will be removed.
Device issues: Deleting data does not resolve measurement inaccuracies or hardware problems; contact Emporia Customer Support for troubleshooting.
Third-party control: If your Emporia charger is enrolled in an EV energy program, a third party may control certain charging behaviors, which may be relevant when deciding whether to clear data.
How to clear data
Follow these steps to delete measurement data for your device or selected circuits.
