Emporia AI Energy Assistant

Explore Your Energy Data Through Natural Conversation

Updated this week

The Emporia AI Energy Assistant lets you ask questions about your home's energy usage and get personalized insights based on your actual data. Instead of navigating through dashboards and charts, simply ask questions in plain language.

Note: This is a research release with approximately 50+ messages per day. Some features may have limitations as we continue development.

Who Is the AI Energy Assistant For?

The AI Energy Assistant works for all Emporia users with an active account and connected devices. It's particularly valuable for high-energy users who want to track EV charging costs, solar production, and major appliance usage. Cost-conscious homeowners can identify expensive usage patterns and find optimization opportunities, while tech enthusiasts can create custom visualizations and explore data in new ways.

How It Works

The AI Energy Assistant connects directly to your Emporia devices and usage data. Ask questions naturally, and the assistant analyzes your actual usage patterns to provide answers, visualizations, and insights. You can ask follow-up questions to dig deeper, request custom charts, and explore your data from any angle.

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Visit the AI Energy Assistant page from your browser

  2. Log in with your Emporia account credentials

  3. Start asking questions about your energy data

What You Can Ask

Usage Patterns

  • "Show me when my house uses the most energy"

  • "Compare my weekday versus weekend usage"

  • "What were my energy peaks last week?"

Cost Tracking

  • "How much did it cost to charge my car in October?"

  • "What's my daily energy cost this week?"

  • "Break down my costs by device for last month"

Problem Detection

  • "Is anything in my house using abnormal amounts of power?"

  • "Show me unusual usage patterns from last week"

  • "Has my refrigerator's energy use changed recently?"

Custom Visualizations

  • "Create a chart showing my top 5 energy users with costs"

  • "Show me a comparison dashboard for different months"

  • "Generate a monthly summary of my energy use"

Scenario Modeling

  • "What would happen if I moved my EV charging to off-peak hours?"

  • "How much could I save by shifting my usage patterns?"

Tips for Better Results

Be specific with time periods by using "last week" or "November 2024" instead of "recently." The assistant remembers conversation context, so you can ask follow-up questions to refine your results. If you want a particular type of chart or report, describe exactly what you're looking for. Starting with broad questions and then narrowing down based on the results usually works best.

Managing Your Conversations

Starting a New Conversation

If you reach message limits or want to explore a new topic, simply start a fresh conversation. The assistant will still have access to all your energy data.

Daily Message Limits

You have approximately 50+ messages per day, depending on conversation complexity and data volume. Complex visualizations or large date ranges may use more of your daily limit.

Troubleshooting

"The assistant doesn't understand my question"

Try rephrasing with more specific details or use exact device names and circuit numbers.

"Visualizations won't display properly"

Switch to desktop for complex charts or simplify the date range for mobile devices.

"I hit the message limit"

Start a new conversation to continue. Limits reset daily.

"Responses are slow"

Users with 10+ devices may experience slower processing. Try simpler queries first, then add complexity.

Privacy & Data

Your data stays private with the AI Energy Assistant. Emporia never sells your information. While the assistant is powered by OpenAI, we've opted out of all data sharing for model training, which means your conversations won't be used to train AI models. If you delete your Emporia account, all assistant data is deleted as well.

Current Limitations

As a research release, you may encounter occasional errors where responses aren't perfect on the first try. Users with 10 or more devices may experience slower responses or session limits. Very complex charts may not render perfectly on mobile devices, and very long conversations may eventually hit length limits. Remember that you have approximately 50+ messages per day based on complexity.
