Emporia Energy's Vue energy monitors and EV Chargers are powerful tools for managing your energy consumption. When used together, they unlock the potential of our PowerSmart feature, which dynamically controls your EV Charger to ensure it operates within your electrical system's limits. This synergy allows for the safe installation and use of an EV Charger without overloading your electrical system.
Vue Energy Monitors: The Foundation of PowerSmart
The Emporia Vue 3 and Vue 2 energy monitors are essential for providing real-time monitoring of your electrical system. These devices track your energy usage accurately and in real-time, making them the best choice for enabling PowerSmart functionality.
Installation: Ensure the 200A CT sensors on the Vue 3 are properly installed on your main electrical system. Detailed installation instructions can be found here.
EV Charger: Best-in-Class Controllable Features
Emporia's Level 2 EV Charger is renowned for its robust controllable features. When paired with a Vue 3 or Vue 2 energy monitor, the EV Charger benefits from PowerSmart functionality, allowing for dynamic adjustment of the charge rate based on real-time energy usage data.
How PowerSmart Works
Every minute, the Vue 3 energy monitor scans the previous minute's usage data from your electrical system. If it detects that your energy usage is approaching or exceeding a predefined threshold, it sends a command to the EV Charger to adjust its charge rate accordingly to keep your usage under the set threshold. This ensures that your EV Charger operates safely within the limits of your electrical system, preventing overloads. When available capacity is detected, a command is sent to your EV Charger to increase its available charge rate.
Note: PowerSmart is designed to keep your overall usage under the specified threshold in a safe and reliable manner. Adjustments to charge rate are not immediate, but may take a minute to be reflected with the EV Charger behavior and app display. This is intended and well within the protective guidelines provided by NEC and UL.
