Released August 20, 2026
This update introduces Homes, a new way to group your devices by location with shared settings and sharing, plus Solar Buyback Rates for more accurate cost and savings tracking, and an improved Usage day view.
Homes
You can now group your devices into a Home. Devices in the same Home share one location, time zone, utility rate plan, billing day, and set of members, so you can manage the whole property in one place instead of setting up each device individually.
What's new:
Shared settings - Edit the Home's location, time zone, utility plan, or billing day once and it applies to every device in the Home
Multiple Homes - Create a Home for each property, ideal for vacation homes and rentals
Home sharing - Invite someone to your Home and they get access to every device, setting, and all energy data in it. To share a single device instead, keep that device Unassigned and share just the device
New navigation - Your Homes are listed at the top of the Menu. Tap a Home's name to manage it, switch Homes from the Home tab, and filter the Devices tab by Home or Unassigned
For the full walk-through, including how sharing works and how Homes interact with features like Excess Solar and PowerSmart, see Understanding Homes in the Emporia App.
Solar Buyback Rates
If you have solar and your utility pays you for the energy you export, you can now add that buyback rate in the app. With a buyback rate set, your cost and savings figures account for what you earn from exported energy, not just what you spend.
What's new:
Add your buyback rate - In your Home's settings, tap Solar Buyback Rate, then choose Same rate I pay (your utility pays full retail credit, also called 1:1 net metering) or A set rate (your utility pays a fixed amount for each kWh). The rate applies to the Home and every eligible device in it
Set up for solar - The Solar Buyback Rate option appears when the Home has an energy monitor that is set up for solar
In-app recommendation - The app now recommends adding a buyback rate for Homes with a solar-capable energy monitor, so your savings picture stays accurate
Updates and Improvements
Hourly day view - The Usage page's day view now shows hourly bars, making it easier to scan a full day at a glance. You can still drill into any hour for minute-level detail
Peak demand widget - The peak demand widget on the Home screen has been cleaned up for better readability
