Choosing Your Emporia EV Charger: Classic vs Pro

Everything you need to know when deciding between the Pro and Classic Level 2 EV Chargers

Updated today

Emporia offers two Level 2 EV chargers designed to meet different needs. Both deliver fast, reliable home charging — but the Pro takes it further with integrated energy management built in from day one. This guide will help you understand the differences and choose the right charger for your home.

Choose the Classic EV Charger if you:

  • Want a quality Level 2 charger at a lower initial investment

  • Prefer to purchase components separately based on your needs

  • Need basic Level 2 charging with time-of-use scheduling included at no extra cost

  • Have adequate electrical panel capacity and don't need load management right away

  • Want the flexibility to add dynamic load balancing (PowerSmart) later via a paid upgrade

Note: The Classic charger includes time-of-use scheduling at no extra cost. Solar optimization is available when paired with a separately purchased Vue monitor. Dynamic load balancing (PowerSmart) is available as a paid upgrade.

Choose the Pro EV Charger if you:

  • Want a complete, all-in-one energy management solution from day one

  • Need faster charging speeds (up to 48A)

  • Have solar panels and want to optimize self-consumption automatically

  • Want to take advantage of time-of-use electricity rates without manual configuration

  • Would benefit from built-in dynamic load management to prevent system overloads

  • Prefer a cleaner installation with the pre-configured rear knockout and included mounting bracket

Note: The Pro EV Charger is sold as a complete bundle with the Vue 3 energy monitor. PowerSmart dynamic load management is pre-installed and ready to use immediately.

What Both Chargers Share
