Does the EV Charger Require WiFi?
No, the charger functions at default settings (40A for NEMA 14-50, 48A for hardwired) without WiFi. However, adjusting charge rates or enabling automated features requires an initial setup via the Emporia app. The charger will retain essential settings, such as breaker size or guaranteed charging rate, even after losing Wi-Fi connectivity.
Manual Charging Activation
If your charger is in the "Ready" state and not connected to Wi-Fi, you won't have any issues charging normally. Manual activation is only needed when your charger is in the "Off" state and offline, as this plug-in/plug-out process changes the charger's status when not connected to Wi-Fi.

Plug charging handle into your vehicle for 2+ seconds, then unplug
Repeat: plug in for 2+ seconds, then unplug again

Alternative Manual Override:
Plugging in the charger twice while offline turns it on until a scheduled off event or manual shutoff occurs
This manual sequence bypasses all app controls and works with both plug-in and hardwired installations.
Scheduled Charging While Offline
Pre-set schedules remain active during WiFi outages, but schedule updates require an internet connection. The charger will continue to follow previously downloaded scheduling rules until connectivity is restored.
Data Logging During Outages
Short outages (<20 min): Data is stored locally and uploaded once connection is restored
Long outages (>20 min): The charger tracks cumulative energy usage and averages the data into records once reconnected. While total energy consumption remains accurate, individual time-based records may be estimated. In rare cases, the charger may lose track of cumulative usage, potentially resulting in data loss
