Thermostats

Integrate your smart home thermostat into the Emporia app for ultimate control.

Updated this week

The Emporia app allows you to manage and control your smart thermostats from select providers. These integrations enhance your ability to monitor and optimize energy usage in your home. Supported thermostat providers include:

  • Honeywell (Total Connect Comfort)

  • Resideo

  • Ecobee

  • Sensi (Emerson)

Note: At this time, Google Nest Thermostat integration is not available. This is a feature we're looking to add in the future (no timeline available).

How to Add Your Smart Thermostat

Follow these steps to integrate your smart thermostat into the Emporia app:

  1. Open the Emporia app and tap the menu icon (three bars in the upper-left corner).

  2. Select Thermostats under the Device Controls section.

  3. Tap + Add Device, choose your thermostat manufacturer, and follow the on-screen setup prompts.

Note: Ensure your smart thermostat is already connected to its provider’s platform (e.g., Honeywell, Resideo) before attempting to integrate it into the Emporia app.

Available Controls

To access the Control page, tap the menu icon, select Thermostats, and choose the integrated thermostat from the list.

Key Features

Energy Management and Automation

Once integrated, you can:

  • Control your thermostat directly through the Emporia app.

  • Automate settings to optimize energy usage based on time-of-use (ToU) rates, excess solar energy production, and peak demand goals.

Time-of-Use (ToU) Management

Adjust your thermostat automatically to limit energy consumption during utility’s Peak Hours. Precondition your home during Off-Peak Hours to reduce costs while maintaining comfort.

  • Modes Supported: Heat and Cool (Auto and Off modes are ignored).

  • Safety Limits: Emporia will never adjust temperatures below 68°F (20°C) or above 78°F (26°C). You can override adjustments at any time.

How to Set Up ToU Management:

  1. Go to Menu > Household Info > Set Utility Rate.

  2. Choose your thermostat and navigate to Management > Time-of-Use Management.

  3. Enable "Manage my thermostat by ToU Plan" and set parameters for Peak and Off-Peak Hours.

Peak Demand Management

If you use the Emporia Vue Gen 2 energy monitor, you can set a Peak Demand Goal. The app will automatically adjust connected thermostats to meet this target.

  • Modes Supported: Heat and Cool (Auto and Off modes are ignored).

How to Set Up Peak Demand Management:

  1. Navigate to Menu > Manage Devices and choose your thermostat.

  2. Set Energy Management parameters for Peak Hours.

  3. Go to Management > Peak Demand Management, select your Vue, and set your Peak Demand Goal.

Excess Solar Optimization

For homes generating solar energy, Emporia can adjust your thermostat to utilize excess energy efficiently. Temperatures are adjusted only in Heat or Cool modes to prevent waste during surplus generation periods.

How to Set Up Solar Optimization:

  1. Go to Menu > Manage Devices and choose your thermostat.

  2. Set parameters for Off-Peak Hours under Energy Management.

  3. Navigate to Management > Excess Solar Optimization, select your Vue, and enable the feature for your connected devices.

Managing Multiple Thermostats

The Emporia app supports multiple thermostats. However, when using the Excess Solar Management feature, you may encounter issues controlling more than one thermostat simultaneously. For optimal performance with this feature, we recommend limiting participation to a single thermostat.
