PowerSmart's Impact on Other Emporia Features

Learn how PowerSmart ensures safety by overriding key energy management settings when necessary.

Updated over a week ago

PowerSmart is a key feature in the Emporia platform designed to prioritize safety by managing service capacity and preventing over-usage. As such, PowerSmart will override other energy management features, including Scheduling (Time of Use), Excess Solar, and Peak Demand Management for the EV Charger, when necessary to maintain safe operating conditions.

Key Overrides and Interactions

1. Dynamic/Adjustable Charge Rates

Manual charge rate adjustment is disabled while PowerSmart is active to maintain safe limits based on real-time service load.

2. Time of Use Management (Schedules)

PowerSmart respects your configured schedules but may reduce charge rates during these periods to maintain safe service capacity.

3. Excess Solar Management

Since Excess Solar Management focuses on net production (energy returning to the grid), it works complementary to PowerSmart without interference.

4. Peak Demand Management

PowerSmart takes precedence over Peak Demand Management for safety reasons, automatically adjusting the EV Charger load to prevent exceeding service capacity.
