Load Sharing is Emporia's intelligent power management solution that allows multiple EV chargers to coordinate power delivery without exceeding electrical limits.
How Load Sharing Works
Load Sharing enables two or more Emporia EV chargers to automatically share available power from either:
Shared Circuit: Multiple chargers on a single circuit breaker
Dedicated EV Sub-Panel: Multiple chargers on separate breakers within an EV-only sub-panel
When multiple vehicles are connected, the chargers communicate through Emporia's cloud platform to dynamically divide available power, ensuring the total never exceeds 80% of your electrical capacity.

Smart Power Distribution
When charging alone, A single charger can use the maximum available power
When charging together, Power splits automatically and equally among active chargers
The system guarantees a minimum of 6A per charger for safe operation
Power will begin to rebalance within 30 seconds of any load change (increase/decrease or start/stop of charging) - may take up to a minute or two to balance all chargers optimally.
No manual management required
Example: Three chargers on a 60A circuit (48A available at 80% capacity)
All 3 charging: 16A each
2 charging: 24A each
1 charging: Up to 48A
Key Benefits
Save Money: Avoid costly electrical upgrades ($5,000-$10,000 for panel upgrades, $1,000-$5,000 per new circuit)
No Extra Hardware: Works with just your Emporia chargers - no Vue monitor required
Automatic Operation: No apps to check, schedules to set, or cables to swap
Future-Ready: Add more EVs without rewiring - grows with your family's needs
Works Offline: Continues safe operation at 6A per charger if internet connection is lost
Load Sharing vs PowerSmart
Load Sharing: Prevents overload when multiple chargers share electrical capacity
Manages power at the circuit or sub-panel level
No Vue monitor required
PowerSmart: Prevents the main electrical panel from overloading due to total home energy use
Manages power at the main panel level
Requires a Vue energy monitor
Better Together: Both features can work simultaneously for complete energy management
Installation Scenarios
Shared Circuit: Multiple chargers wired to the same breaker - simplest setup
Dedicated EV Sub-Panel: Each charger on separate breakers within an EV-only sub-panel - maximum flexibility
With PowerSmart: Combined solution handles both circuit limits and total panel capacity
